Sudan’s Charge d’Affaires to Kenya, Ambassador Mohamed Osman Akasha, has condemned the genocide and war crimes committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in El Fasher and other states of Sudan. He described the atrocities as one of the darkest humanitarian tragedies in modern African history.
The envoy said the RSF militia has besieged El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, for nearly two years, cutting off food, medicine, and humanitarian supplies while targeting civilians through shelling, drone attacks, and sniper fire. Thousands of residents have been displaced while entire communities face starvation and systematic violence.
Speaking during a briefing in Nairobi, Ambassador Akasha said the RSF has committed grave atrocities, including mass executions, rape, and the killing of patients in hospitals.
“For two years, the people of El Fasher have endured unimaginable suffering. The militia bombarded the city, destroyed hospitals, looted humanitarian convoys, and burned entire neighbourhoods to the ground,” he said.
He noted that the evidence of genocide is overwhelming, describing the ongoing conflict as a deliberate campaign of extermination against innocent civilians.
“What is happening in El Fasher is not spontaneous it is systematic. Entire families have been wiped out, women and children brutally murdered, and communities erased,” he stated.
The Sudanese envoy cited United Nations reports confirming ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity, accusing the militia of using drones and foreign-supplied weapons to intensify the violence.
He said credible investigations, including the UN Security Council Panel of Experts report (S/2024/65), have revealed that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been supplying the RSF militia with weapons and drones in violation of the Darfur arms embargo.
“The Government of Sudan has lodged a formal complaint supported by evidence confirming the UAE’s role in arming and providing logistics to the terrorist militia,” Akasha revealed, urging global partners to act urgently to end foreign interference that fuels the conflict.
He called on the United Nations, African Union, and international community to impose sanctions on those sponsoring the militia and to halt all arms supplies.
“Those who finance, arm, and protect this militia share direct responsibility for the suffering of the Sudanese people,” he said, adding that the RSF should be classified as a terrorist organisation and its leaders held accountable for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Akasha reiterated that Sudan will not surrender to terrorism and called for global solidarity to dismantle the militia and deliver justice for the victims.
“Sudan will not bow to terrorism. We demand justice and accountability for those responsible for the atrocities,” he affirmed.
The envoy’s remarks come amid growing international condemnation of RSF actions in Darfur. The United Nations, African Union, European Union, and several human rights groups, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, have described the situation as genocidal and called for urgent intervention to protect civilians.
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), over 400,000 civilians have fled El Fasher in recent months, while thousands remain missing. The city, once a hub of trade and coexistence, has been reduced to ruins, with unburied bodies and mass graves scattered across residential areas.
Ambassador Akasha appealed to the global community to demonstrate moral courage and stand with the Sudanese people.
“Every weapon delivered to the RSF is a weapon turned against innocent civilians. Every delay costs Sudanese lives,” he said, urging nations to enforce the arms embargo and hold all complicit actors accountable.
He reaffirmed Sudan’s commitment to peace, stability, and justice, expressing confidence that the nation will overcome terrorism and rebuild its future on unity and resilience.
