Affordable Housing Board Partners with Huduma Kenya to Expand Boma Yangu Services Nationwide

Joseph Kagicha (left), Acting CEO of the Affordable Housing Board, and Benjamin Kai Chilumo, CEO of Huduma Kenya Secretariat, sign a partnership agreement to expand Boma Yangu services at Huduma Centres nationwide, improving access to affordable housing for Kenyans.

NAIROBI, March 30 — The Affordable Housing Board (AHB) has signed a partnership agreement with Huduma Kenya to enhance access to Boma Yangu homeownership services across Huduma Centres nationwide.

The agreement will allow citizens to access Boma Yangu customer care services, housing information, registration support and application assistance at all Huduma Centres, bringing affordable housing services closer to Kenyans and improving participation in the government’s housing programme.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Jacob Mijiwe, Secretary for Human Resource Services at the Ministry of Public Service and Human Capital Development, who represented Principal Secretary Jane Kere Imbunya, said the integration of Affordable Housing services into the Huduma Kenya platform marks a significant step toward improving citizen-centred service delivery.

“Public services must work for citizens, not the other way around. By consolidating services under Huduma Kenya, we are reducing barriers and ensuring every Kenyan can access essential services with dignity, ease and timeliness,” Mijiwe said.

He emphasized that access to accurate information remains key to ensuring wider participation in the Affordable Housing Programme.

“Information is power, and citizens must clearly understand how to access these houses, the costs involved and the process so that no Kenyan is left behind,” he added.

Mijiwe said the partnership would strengthen trust in government programmes by using Huduma Centres a platform widely trusted by citizens to disseminate accurate information and provide direct assistance.

Affordable Housing Board Acting Chief Executive Officer Joseph Kagicha said the partnership was informed by findings showing that many citizens lacked awareness of how to access housing opportunities despite ongoing construction projects across the country.

“When we asked people how they could access affordable housing, many did not know where to begin. That is why partnering with Huduma Kenya became necessary so that any Kenyan can walk into a centre and receive guidance,”Kagicha said.

He added that the programme is open to all Kenyans aged 18 years and above and does not require special connections to participate.

“As long as you are 18 years and above, you are eligible to register. You do not need to know anyone because the programme is open to all Kenyans,” he said.

Kagicha noted that Boma Yangu services will be rolled out in Huduma Centres nationwide shortly after the signing of the agreement, enabling citizens to register, verify documents and receive assistance conveniently.

He revealed that more than 1.2 million Kenyans have already registered on the Boma Yangu platform and encouraged citizens to visit ongoing housing project sites to witness progress firsthand.

Huduma Kenya Secretariat Chief Executive Officer Benjamin Kai Chilumo said the collaboration aligns with Huduma Kenya’s mandate of bringing government services closer to citizens.

“It is a pleasure to officially bring Boma Yangu on board Huduma Centres. By partnering with the Affordable Housing Board, we are fulfilling our responsibility of ensuring services reach wananchi wherever they are,” said Chilumo, adding that all 59 Huduma Centres nationwide will host dedicated desks to guide citizens seeking information and assistance on affordable housing.

He described the Affordable Housing Programme as a key national initiative aimed at addressing housing challenges and improving living standards through access to decent homes equipped with essential social amenities.

“Kenyans have continued to face housing challenges, but this programme gives hope of providing dignified homes with water, electricity and social facilities that improve quality of life,” said Chilumo.

Officials said the partnership demonstrates a commitment to coordinated service delivery and institutional collaboration aimed at improving citizen experience while accelerating uptake of the Affordable Housing Programme.

With the agreement in place, Kenyans will be able to access housing information, registration support and customer care services at their nearest Huduma Centre, a move expected to expand participation in the national housing programme and advance inclusive homeownership across the country.
