NAIROBI, May 14, 2026 — The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has expressed confidence ahead of the upcoming Ol Kalou Constituency by-election after issuing a nomination certificate to party candidate Samuel Muchina.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan said the ruling party remained committed to participating in electoral contests across the country as part of its national political agenda. He said UDA had consistently fielded candidates in various elections and would continue engaging voters in every region regardless of political perceptions surrounding particular contests.
“Wherever there is an election, UDA will be there and UDA will run with the candidate because UDA is a national party,” Hassan said.
He criticized divisive politics and urged leaders to avoid inflammatory remarks that could undermine national cohesion during campaigns.
“We believe every opinion must be given an equal opportunity to participate in a democratic process without violence and without intimidation,” he said.
Hassan further emphasized the need for peaceful and democratic engagement during the by-election period, noting that the ruling party had a responsibility to safeguard stability and unity in the country.
“We believe every opinion must be given an equal opportunity to participate in a democratic process without violence and without intimidation,” he said.
UDA National Elections Board Chairperson Anthony Mwaura said the party had finalized all internal processes related to the nominations, including the resolution of disputes raised after the exercise.
He noted that the party’s electoral structures had handled complaints transparently and within the established mechanisms.
“We did make a final decision on that complaint and as it is now, there is no matter pending before the party’s dispute resolution mechanism,” Mwaura said.
He added that the conclusion of the dispute process had cleared the way for the official issuance of the nomination certificate to the winning candidate.
UDA candidate for the Ol Kalou Constituency by-election Samuel Muchina thanked residents for entrusting him with the party ticket and pledged to champion development initiatives in the constituency.
He said his leadership would focus on improving access to education and supporting programmes aimed at uplifting local communities.
“I will stand with the people of Ol Kalou and embrace development as demonstrated by the ruling party,” Muchina said.
The candidate also pledged to support bursary programmes and other initiatives aimed at helping students pursue their education successfully.
Senior government adviser Moses Kuria said the nomination of Muchina reflected the electorate’s preference for a leader familiar with the constituency’s needs and development priorities.
He said the by-election campaign would focus on tangible development achievements and service delivery rather than political rhetoric.
“By nominating Samuel Muchina, the people of Ol Kalou have demonstrated that they want a leader who understands their issues,” Kuria said.
Kuria noted that UDA, as the ruling party, would be evaluated based on the government’s performance and fulfillment of promises made to wananchi.
He added that the party would use the campaign period to showcase ongoing and planned development projects while also strengthening its political mobilization ahead of the next General Election.
