NAIROBI, July 8, 2026 — The People’s Prosperity Party (PPP) was officially unveiled on Wednesday, with former Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo declaring his candidature for the presidency in the 2027 General Election after accepting the party’s nomination as its presidential flag bearer.
Speaking during the unveiling of the People’s Prosperity Party and its headquarters, Ustawi House, in Nairobi, Owalo said his presidential bid would be anchored on an ambitious economic transformation agenda aimed at delivering what he termed Kenya’s “Third Liberation” through inclusive growth, economic empowerment and shared prosperity for all Kenyans.
“Today, I officially announce that I intend to seek the presidency of the Republic of Kenya on the People’s Prosperity Party ticket. I am confident that by the constitutional timeline for the declaration of the presidential results in 2027, Kenyans will have given me the mandate to begin the great work of the Third Liberation an economic revolution to deliver Ustawi Kwa Wote (Prosperity for All Kenyans),” Owalo said.
Owalo argued that although Kenya attained political independence and later embraced multiparty democracy, millions of citizens continue to face poverty, unemployment and inequality because the country’s economic system has failed to reward those who create wealth.
“The producer sweats but the broker prospers. The worker labours while others accumulate wealth. That is the injustice we want to dismantle by creating an economy where those who create value also enjoy the benefits of their labour,” he said.
The former ICT Cabinet Secretary said his administration would implement policies aimed at lowering the cost of living, stimulating investment and expanding opportunities for businesses and young people.
He pledged to reduce income tax from 35 to 20 per cent, lower Value Added Tax from 16 to 10 per cent, abolish the digital tax and reduce corporate tax to stimulate economic growth while broadening the tax base.
Owalo also promised to institute a forensic audit of Kenya’s public debt, eliminate corruption through full digitisation of government services and reopen unresolved corruption cases within the framework of the Constitution to enhance accountability and prudent management of public resources.
“Public debt should not become the private pain of ordinary Kenyans. We will conduct a forensic audit to establish how borrowed funds were used, eliminate corruption through technology and ensure government lives within its means by ending waste and revenue leakages,” he said.
Earlier, People’s Prosperity Party founder Ali Mohammed Godhana said the new political outfit had been established to champion inclusive leadership by bringing together young people and communities that have traditionally remained on the margins of national development.
He said the party’s formation demonstrated that leadership should not be defined by age or political pedigree but by ideas, integrity and a commitment to transforming the country.
“I am 23 years old, and this party represents a new generation of leadership. We welcome every Kenyan from every region because a party that includes young people is a party that is ready for the future,” Godhana said.
Godhana, who hails from Tana River County, said the party would provide a national platform for all Kenyans regardless of their background to contribute to nation-building and economic empowerment.
“This party is an opportunity not only for people from marginalised counties but for every Kenyan. Together, we are ready to build a new Kenya founded on inclusion, opportunity and shared prosperity,” he said.
The unveiling marked the official launch of the People’s Prosperity Party and Ustawi House ahead of the 2027 General Election, with the party positioning itself as an alternative political movement focused on economic empowerment, social justice, accountable leadership and shared prosperity for all Kenyans.
