ELDORET, July 26, 2026 — More than 100 mechanics from across the North Rift were recognised in Eldoret during Vivo Energy Kenya’s second annual Mechanics Wellness Day, an initiative aimed at appreciating the professionals whose expertise keeps the country’s transport, agriculture, manufacturing and construction sectors operating efficiently.
Held under the theme Celebrating the People Behind Kenya’s Mobility Ecosystem, the event brought together mechanics, their families and industry partners for health screening, sporting activities and professional engagement, while reaffirming Vivo Energy Kenya’s commitment to supporting mechanics through health, skills development and access to quality lubricants.
Speaking during the awards ceremony, Vivo Energy Kenya Lubricants and LPG Sales and Marketing Manager Stephen Gikonyo said mechanics remain at the heart of Kenya’s mobility ecosystem by ensuring vehicles and equipment remain safe, reliable and efficient.
“This day is about celebrating and thanking the skilled men and women whose hands keep Kenya moving. Behind every safe journey, every successful delivery and every successful harvest is a mechanic whose expertise makes it possible,” Gikonyo said.
He noted that Shell Lubricants remains committed to supporting mechanics beyond providing quality products by investing in their wellbeing, professional growth and technical capacity.

Gikonyo said mechanics play a critical role in servicing tractors preparing farmland, trucks transporting goods, buses connecting communities and family vehicles, making them indispensable to Kenya’s economic growth.
He added that Vivo Energy Kenya continues to equip mechanics with technical training, product knowledge, safety education and world-class lubrication solutions to help workshops improve service delivery and enhance customer confidence.
The wellness programme featured comprehensive medical screening alongside football, pool, darts and other recreational activities designed to promote healthy living while strengthening camaraderie among mechanics.
Ezra Omwancha of Equity Afya said the initiative addresses the occupational health challenges faced by mechanics, whose work often involves strenuous physical activity and prolonged exposure to demanding working conditions.
“Mechanics often work long hours in confined spaces, lift heavy equipment and are regularly exposed to physically demanding conditions. Through this initiative, we are providing free health screening and related medical services to help ensure they remain healthy and able to continue supporting Kenya’s transport and agricultural sectors,” Omwancha said.
He emphasised that preventive healthcare is essential in safeguarding the wellbeing of mechanics and sustaining productivity across the country’s transport and agricultural sectors.
“Regular health screening allows for early detection and management of health conditions before they become serious. We encourage mechanics to prioritise their health because a healthy workforce is essential for a productive and resilient mobility sector,” he added.
The event also offered mechanics an opportunity to interact with colleagues, families and industry stakeholders, fostering stronger professional networks and reinforcing the importance of recognising the contribution of skilled technicians to Kenya’s economy.
The celebrations culminated in an awards ceremony where winners of the various sporting and recreational competitions were honoured, with Vivo Energy Kenya reaffirming its commitment to promoting the welfare, recognition and professional development of mechanics as key partners in the country’s mobility ecosystem.
