NAIROBI, May 20, 2025 — Somali Kenyan political figure Hon. Sadia Mohamed Jama, popularly known as “Miss Uunsi”, visited the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia in Nairobi as part of her engagements touching on the Somali community and issues of mutual interest between Kenya and Somalia.
The visit brought attention to the role of the Somali Embassy in Nairobi as an important diplomatic institution serving Somali citizens and engaging with the wider Somali community living in Kenya.
The embassy also remains a key point of contact on matters concerning the relationship between Kenya and Somalia, with bilateral ties extending to trade, security, education, movement of people and regional cooperation.
For Jama, the visit provided an opportunity to engage with an institution closely associated with the Somali community and issues affecting people with social, economic and historical connections across Kenya and Somalia.
The Somali community in Kenya has longstanding links with both countries, with Nairobi serving as an important centre for business, education, diplomacy, civil society and community activities involving Somalis from across the region.
Kenya and Somalia share a relationship shaped by geographical proximity and cross-border connections, with developments in one country often having implications for communities on the other side of the border.
The two countries have continued to cooperate on matters including security and trade, while the movement of people and goods along the Kenya-Somalia corridor remains significant to communities and businesses in the region.

Jama’s visit therefore formed part of broader engagements involving the Somali community and institutions connected to Kenya-Somalia relations. It also underscored the intersection between community affairs, Kenyan politics and regional relations, particularly for Somali Kenyan leaders whose public engagements often involve issues affecting communities with ties across the two countries.
The engagement further highlighted Nairobi’s position as a meeting point for political, diplomatic, business and community affairs involving Kenya and Somalia.
Jama’s visit to the embassy added to her public engagements in 2025 and provided an opportunity for interaction with an institution whose mandate includes representing Somalia’s interests in Kenya while facilitating relations between the two countries.
The engagement comes against the backdrop of longstanding people-to-people, economic and cultural links between Kenya and Somalia, particularly among communities living in Nairobi and areas along the Kenya-Somalia border.
The visit highlighted the continued importance of dialogue between political and community actors and diplomatic institutions on matters affecting Somali communities in Kenya and the wider region.
