NAIROBI, June 24, 2026 — The Technopolis Development Authority (TDA) has graduated 2,700 young people who successfully completed a five-day Jitume Digital Media Tools Sensitization Workshop aimed at equipping them with practical digital and creative industry skills.

The hybrid training programme, conducted at the Jitume Digital Media Factory at the General Post Office (GPO) in Nairobi, attracted participants from across the country and exposed them to emerging technologies, industry best practices and career opportunities in Kenya’s growing digital economy.

The initiative introduced participants to careers in photography, videography, graphic design, video editing and social media management while also providing practical exposure to Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled creative tools, entrepreneurship and professional industry workflows.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony, Technopolis Development Authority Chief Executive Officer John Paul Okwiri said the overwhelming response to the programme reflected the growing demand among young people for digital skills and opportunities in the creative economy.

“This graduation is a testament to the ever-growing creative industry in our country. We recorded nearly 3,000 participants signing up for this workshop, demonstrating the strong desire among young creatives to sharpen their skills while highlighting the need to roll out more similar programmes across the country,” said Okwiri.

He noted that the workshop brought together aspiring videographers, photographers, graphic designers, social media managers and content creators, providing them with an opportunity to network, improve their skills and raise professional standards within the sector.

“It is therefore important to continue supporting young creatives through initiatives like this to ensure we strengthen and grow the creative industry,” he added.

The programme was implemented in partnership with the Kenya Film Commission, Postal Corporation of Kenya and Genesis Design Factory. Beyond technical training, it sought to help participants understand the broader creative industry ecosystem and build sustainable careers through employment, freelancing and entrepreneurship.

The graduation ceremony brought together outstanding participants alongside representatives from government, academia, technology institutions, development partners, industry and the media.

Activities included exhibitions of participants’ creative works, presentations on the programme’s impact, discussions on the future of creative work in Kenya, recognition of top-performing participants and networking sessions linking emerging creatives with potential employers and industry partners.

According to the Authority, the initiative has increased awareness of modern creative careers, strengthened collaboration between young creatives and industry professionals, enhanced understanding of the role of Artificial Intelligence in creative production and expanded opportunities for employment and self-employment.

The Authority said the programme supports the Government’s commitment to promoting digital inclusion, innovation and youth empowerment as part of Kenya’s broader socio-economic transformation agenda.

The Jitume Digital Enablement Programme is a Government of Kenya initiative designed to expand access to digital opportunities by equipping young people with market-driven digital skills, innovation capabilities and pathways to employment and entrepreneurship through a network of digital hubs and specialised learning centres across the country.
