Technopolis Development Authority Chief Manager for Construction Operations Management, Eng. Anthony Sang, inspects the ongoing construction of the Jitume Centre of Excellence at Nandi Hill, Nandi County onAugust 1, 2026.
Nandi ,August 1,2026 – The Government is strengthening its digital transformation agenda through the construction of a Jitume Centre of Excellence in Nandi County, a flagship project expected to expand access to digital skills, innovation, entrepreneurship and technology-driven employment for young people in the North Rift region.
The facility, currently under construction in Nandi Hills, was inspected by Technopolis Development Authority Chief Manager for Construction Operations Management, Eng. Anthony Sang, who said the project forms part of the government’s plan to establish a Jitume Centre of Excellence in every county to build a digitally skilled workforce and accelerate Kenya’s transition to a knowledge-based economy.
Speaking during the inspection tour, Sang said the Centre demonstrates the Government’s commitment to ensuring that young people across the country have access to modern digital infrastructure and opportunities to participate in the growing digital economy.
“The establishment of the Digital Centre of Excellence in Nandi Hills reflects the Government’s commitment to ensuring every Kenyan can participate meaningfully in the digital economy,” said Sang.
The Jitume Digital Enablement Programme is being implemented by the Technopolis Development Authority, formerly Konza Technopolis Development Authority, as part of the National Government’s broader strategy to promote digital inclusion and innovation.
The Centres of Excellence will complement more than 330 Jitume Digital Hubs already established across the country, creating a seamless pathway from foundational digital literacy to advanced skills, research, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Sang noted that strategic investments in digital infrastructure and innovation ecosystems would create opportunities for young people to develop competitive skills, establish technology-driven enterprises and secure employment in the expanding digital economy.
“By investing in digital infrastructure, digital skills and innovation ecosystems, we are creating opportunities for our young people to innovate, establish technology-driven enterprises and secure digital jobs that contribute to Kenya’s economic transformation,” he said.
Nandi County currently hosts five Jitume Digital Hubs located at Aldai Technical and Vocational College, Kaboi National Polytechnic, Tinderet Technical and Vocational College, Tinderet Integrated Technical and Vocational College and Ollessos Technical Institute.
The new Centre of Excellence is expected to build on these achievements by providing advanced facilities that support innovation, collaboration and enterprise development.
Once completed, the facility will offer dedicated spaces for digital creatives, e-commerce, innovation hubs, studios, learning centres and access to selected government services.
It will also feature high-speed internet connectivity and collaborative workstations designed to support training in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, software development, cloud computing, cybersecurity, data analytics and digital content creation.
According to the Technopolis Development Authority, the programme has recorded significant progress since its launch in 2023. Nearly 30,000 digital devices have been deployed across the country, enabling more than 100,000 young people to receive digital skills training, while 91,428 youth have already secured digital jobs.
The initiative is expected to contribute significantly to the Government’s target of creating one million digital jobs for Kenyan youth.
Sang said the Nandi Centre of Excellence would become a catalyst for innovation and inclusive economic growth by enabling young entrepreneurs and innovators to transform ideas into sustainable businesses.
“The Digital Centre of Excellence is more than a physical facility; it is an investment in Kenya’s digital future. Through this Centre, young entrepreneurs and innovators will acquire globally competitive skills, transform ideas into sustainable businesses and create jobs that drive inclusive economic growth,” he said.
The project reinforces the Technopolis Development Authority’s mandate of developing world-class innovation ecosystems that promote research, technology development, commercialisation and digital industrialisation.
The Jitume Digital Enablement Programme is implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, the Communications Authority of Kenya, the ICT Authority and the National Government Constituencies Development Fund.
