Embakasi East MP Babu Owino Emerges Kenya’s Top-Rated MP in Infotrak Performance Survey

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino displays his award after being recognized as Kenya’s best-performing Member of Parliament in the 2026 Infotrak CountyTrak Elected Leaders Performance Index during the release of the survey findings in Nairobi on July 1, 2026.

NAIROBI, July 1, 2026 — Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has emerged as Kenya’s highest-performing legislator after attaining an 80 per cent approval rating in the latest Infotrak CountyTrak Elected Leaders Performance Index.

The survey placed Owino at the top of the national rankings, ahead of Kabuchai MP Joseph Majimbo Kalasinga, who scored 78 per cent, while Taveta MP John Okano Bwire and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro tied for third place with 76 per cent.

Babu Owino also emerged as the best-performing Member of Parliament in Nairobi County, ahead of Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi, who scored 65 per cent, and Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Mejjadonk, who attained 63 per cent.

The CountyTrak report is based on a nationwide survey conducted between January and May 2026 involving 87,286 respondents drawn from all 47 counties, 290 constituencies and 1,450 wards. Participants rated the overall performance of their Members of Parliament, Senators and Women Representatives using a scale of one to ten, with the final scores reflecting the average rating by constituents.

According to Infotrak, the index measures citizens’ perception of elected leaders rather than technical indicators such as parliamentary attendance, committee work or expenditure audits. Instead, it captures public opinion based on accessibility, responsiveness, communication, visibility, trust and delivery of development initiatives.

The report identifies delivery on campaign promises, transparency and accountability, visible development projects, prudent stewardship of public resources and accessibility to constituents as the leading factors influencing how Kenyans rate their elected leaders.

Infotrak further notes that while Members of Parliament have constitutional responsibilities of legislation, representation and oversight, many citizens also associate the office with visible constituency development through NG-CDF-funded projects such as classrooms, bursaries and community infrastructure.

As a result, MPs who maintain a strong presence within their constituencies and effectively communicate their work tend to receive higher public ratings.

The survey findings place Owino at the pinnacle of the national rankings, reflecting strong public confidence in his leadership as citizens continue to assess elected leaders based on service delivery, visibility and responsiveness to community needs
